Since its opening in September 2022, the DOTS Gallery has hosted numerous artists from both the local and international art scenes. Its inaugural exhibition was dedicated to the solo show by Kiki Smith, “People and Other Animals,”presenting artworks created over the course of the renowned artist’s decades-long career.
Since then, a series of important exhibitions by both established and emerging artists has followed, significantly enriching the cultural offering of the capital. Visitors were given a rare insight into the microcosm of the creative mind through the process of drawing at the exhibition “unSEEN: Unpredictable Forms of Drawing,” which brought together sketches and drawings by fifty artists from around the world.
The group exhibition “CONNECTING THE FUTURE: Young Artists from Serbia and the Netherlands” focused on eight young, talented artists who, through contemporary artistic practice, suggested a connection between two cities and cultural metropolises—Amsterdam and Belgrade. Belgrade also had the opportunity to host one of the most prominent contemporary Dutch artists, Remy Jungerman, with the exhibition “Tracing the Origins,” as well as one of today’s greatest sculptors, Richard Deacon, with his solo exhibition “In Search of Something.” Odile Decq, one of the most highly regarded French figures in contemporary architecture, also held her solo exhibition “On the Other Side of the Mirror.”
The gallery also hosted the exhibition HEROES: Gijsbert Hanekroot and Goranka Matić, which presented parallel bodies of work by two photographers who documented significant moments of the domestic and international rock scenes during the 1970s and 1980s.
Each winter, the gallery organizes “Winter Stories,” a group exhibition featuring works by contemporary artists who have distinguished themselves on the local visual art scene in the preceding period.
DOTS Gallery is located in the K-District, an area that has become a popular riverside residential neighborhood and a business hub of the city’s old quarter. The founder of DOTS Gallery is Vladimir Gogoljev, co-founder of the company Levi9 and the K-District development.
Young Arts Program
The DOTS Foundation started a Young Arts Program in December 2021. This program is designed to incite, promote, and fund production of artwork by young artists. The gallery’s team follows the work of art departments’ senior year students in order to create a platform for young artists, who, in addition to talent, display serious intention to dedicate their professional life to art. The Foundation plans to provide young artists with greater visibility through organization of exhibitions, financing publications, and promoting their work on the web site and social networks..
