About exhibition
The group exhibition "CONNECTING THE FUTURE: Young Artists from Serbia and The Netherlands" focuses on eight young talented artists that through the contemporary artistic practice suggest the connection of two cities, two cultural metropolises - Amsterdam and Belgrade. The project was initiated by the curatorial team of the DOTS Gallery from Belgrade - Mirjana Dušić and Ljuba Jovićević, in cooperation with the Josilda da Conceicao Gallery from Amsterdam and the independent curator Annosh Urbanke from Amsterdam. Isidora M. Nikolić is responsible for the design of the exhibition, as well as the design of the catalog.
The selection from Serbia includes artists Bogdan Djukanović, Lena Milovanović, Lazar Stojić and Vanja Subotić, who are part of the Young Art Program of the Humanitarian Foundation DOTS, the founder of the DOTS Gallery. The Young Art Program has been involved in encouraging, promoting and financing the creativity of young artists for more than a year. Most of the works that will be exhibited are part of the Foundation's collection.
By establishing an artistic dialogue between artists from Serbia and artists from the Netherlands - Juliet Aaltonen, Kaspar Dejong, Ruben Raven and Joppe Venema, project participants get the opportunity to be presented to an audience outside their national borders in their earliest creative phase, and thus to a new, different interpretation. The idea of the project is to provide an incentive for openness, creativity, and democratization of their further artistic work through an insight into the similarities and differences of thought.
