About exhibition
The exhibition CONNECTING THE FUTURE: Young Artists from Serbia and Netherlands opens at the Josilda da Conceição Gallery in Amsterdam on Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 4 to 7pm.
The group exhibition CONNECTING THE FUTURE, which through the presentation of the contemporary artistic practice of newly formed artists, suggests the connection of two cities, two cultural metropolises - Amsterdam and Belgrade, after being shown at the DOTS GALLERY in Belgrade, will be on view from July 8 to Aug 5, 2023 at the Josilda da Conceição Gallery in Amsterdam.
The selection from Serbia includes artists Bogdan Djukanović, Lena Milovanović, Lazar Stojić and Vanja Subotić, who are part of the Young Art Program of the Humanitarian Foundation DOTS, the founder of the DOTS Gallery. The Young Art Program has been involved in encouraging, promoting and financing the creativity of young artists for more than a year.
By establishing an artistic dialogue between artists from Serbia and artists from the Netherlands - Juliet Altonen and Ruben Raven, project participants get the opportunity to be presented to an audience outside their national borders in their earliest creative phase, and thus to a new, different interpretation. The idea of the project is to provide an incentive for openness, creativity, and democratization of their further artistic work through an insight into the similarities and differences of thought.
Recognizing the importance of intercultural projects in the contemporary European context, the curatorial team of the DOTS Gallery from Belgrade - Mirjana Dušić and Ljuba Jovićević, in cooperation with the Josilda da Conceição Gallery and the independent curator Annosh Urbanke from Amsterdam, initiated the project CONNECTING THE FUTURE, which focuses on six young talented artists. Isidora M. Nikolić is responsible for the design of the exhibition, as well as the design of the catalog.
The exhibitions in Belgrade and Amsterdam have been supported by the Embassy of Netherlands in Belgrade and Levi9 IT Services.
