About exhibition
The exhibition HEROES: Gijsbert Hanekroot and Goranka Matić presents the parallel works of two photographers who, during the 1970s and 1980s, recorded important moments of the international and local rock scene. From portraits of David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Freddie Mercury to the legendary concerts of Idoli, EKV, Electric Orgasm and other rock groups from the former Yugoslavia.
The Dutch photographer, Gijsbert Hanekroot, in the late sixties and during the seventies, was with his camera almost everywhere in the world of rock music at that moment, and not only in the Netherlands, where he started his career in the first music magazine "Oor". Numerous concerts and stars were recorded through his lens, from Abba to Frank Zappa, i.e. some of the most important names of the international rock scene of the seventies.
One of our most famous photographers, Goranka Matić, published her photos in almost all newspapers and magazines of the former Yugoslavia (Duga, Politika, Omladinske novine, Beorama, Ritam, Liberation, Polet, (New)Moment, Delo,...) During the eighties, her most significant work was in the field of rock photography, especially within the New Wave scene. She is also the author of some of the iconic album covers of the leading musicians of that period (ldoli, U skripcu, Bajaga i instruktori, Đorđe Balašević and others).
The curators of the exhibition are Mirjana Dušić and Ljuba Jovićević, the author of the text in the catalog is Snežana Golubović, while Isidora M. Nikolić is responsible for the design of the exhibition and catalog.
The exhibition has been supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Belgrade, Levi9 Technology Services, KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines and Heineken Serbia.
